The crime of kidnapping occurs when a person is taken against his or her will to another location. When kidnapping is related to a family violence issue, a child is taken, coerced, or lured away from the custodial parent or guardian, commonly by the other parent. In some cases, threats, intimidation or force is used to kidnap the victim, and they are then held by force or by threats of violence.
